In recent weeks, the Cass Review out of the United Kingdom has been used to argue for bans on gender affirming care. The Endocrine Society and American Academy of Pediatrics are responding, rejecting such arguments.
Despite affirmations of the value of gender affirming care for trans persons from the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Pediatrics Association, the recent Cass Review out of the UK has been touted by anti-trans leaders and is generating a lot of buzz. Sadly, the author of this questionable study with its pseudo scientific findings and references, Dr. Hilary Cass, has been quoted in the New York Times and featured in an interview on NPR. References to this “study” have already been used to support anti-trans legislation in several states in the US. This study is based largely on politics and not on responsible medical or mental health research. The Endocrine Society and American Academy of Pediatrics and other responsible professionals have presented data to dispute the study and reaffirm the value of responsible gender affirming care.
