The Bay Area Council on Gender Diversity extends a big THANK YOU to the special donors who made it possible for the BACGD to co-sponsor the Oneida Pow-Wow first ever Two Spirit Special Dance and Competition this past June 29. Joe Torres gave an excellent speech helping thousands in attendance to gain a better awareness and understanding of Two-Spirit persons. You can learn more about Joe Torres' advocacy work as a Two-Spirit advocate in the July issue of Our Lives magazine, starting on page 19.
As a result of this outpouring of donor generosity – the BACGD is also able to subsidize travel expenses for Joe Torres from the Oneida Tribe and Sasha Rivers from the Ojibwa and Lac du Flambeau Nations to and from the Annual National Western Montana Two Spirit Gathering in mid August. It’s a great honor for the BACGD to be involved in this effort.
