If you look at portrayals of power and control in our popular culture outlets such as theatre, fiction, and media, you will too often find the "business bastard" archetype held up and celebrated. Think Shakespeare's' character Shylock and Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge, right through to today's television program Shark Tank and the movie The Wolf of Wall Street, we’re taught that those who treat people with contempt and harshness are the ones who succeed.
